I could absolutely have missed something here, though :-) I'll admit, the infection code is hard for me to follow completely without comments or debugger, but it appears that infection chance in a dirty room (-.5 cleanliness) is about twice a high as in a sterile room. So, sterile tiles do help with impressiveness, but honestly, room impressiveness is fairly trivial to manage-just throw more or higher quality statues in there and call it good.Īs for cleanliness and tending/infection chance, I found that 1) cleanliness does not appear to affect tending quality (although being on the floor vs a bed does), and that 2) The cleanliness of the room is similarly weighted to the quality of the tending when determining the infection chance. YMMV with the exact numbers here, but this is what I've found to be the ballpark numbers. Similarly, smaller or ugly rooms will gain more benefit from sterile tiles. so going from clean to sterile in an extremely beautiful room, for instance, ends up adding more like 5% instead of 10%. Note that the total impressiveness of a room is determined by a few variables, each having diminishing returns. Going from dirty to clean yields about +10%, and then going from clean to sterile yields about another +10%. Ok, so I did some testing regarding room impressiveness and I also looked at the code for infections.įirst, I was surprised at how little cleanliness effected the impressiveness of a room. Hospitals first though, that's the most important place. Your colonists will do a bit better when you take this time. So don't neglect to save up for sterile tiles and to lay them down in hospitals, kitchens and laboratories when you have time. I can't remember who first noticed this, but there is a slight improvement in research speed if the desk is in a sterile room. We just established that the cleanliness of a room will have an impact on food poisoning occurances, so having a kitchen with a sterile tile floor will make it less likely to poison your colonists. However, there are two additional locations where sterile tile can help. Of course this means that any hospital rooms you have should have sterile tile floors as soon as you can put them in. It is the only floor that can have a positive cleanliness rating, signifying that it fights dirt and infections. Sterile floors are the way to mitigate the dirt. This means that stoves in the room are more likely to produce poisoned food and that anyone with an injury is more likely to get an infection. You also have blood and vomit, which can land on any surface and will remain until cleaned or rain washes it away.Īll of this will reduce the cleanliness of a room. If this occurs on any natural surface, it vanishes without effect, but if it lands on any finished floor it remains until cleaned. Occasionally this will fall off them and land on the ground. People and animals will carry dirt and filth with them. To understand this you have to understand how a colonies "cleanliness" is computed. Yes, they are expensive in both steel and silver to lay down, but they do have a very useful and valuable purpose. r/RimWorldStreams - For all of your videos and streams needs r/RimWorldTales - /u/srgrafo's Rimworld Comic Series r/RimworldSwap - Swap saves with other players r/ShitRimworldSays - /r/nocontext posts about /r/RimWorld r/RimworldArt - Posts about Rimworld Artwork (not fanart!) r/Rimreddit - Colonists playing only on a single planet r/RimWorldPorn - High Quality Images of Rimworld Colonies No discussing pirated versions of the game.
